When the monsoon rains fall on Nepal, it is high season in Ladakh: from June to September you walk under blue skies through a high-altitude desert of white monasteries and green oasis villages. From Manali, trails lead out of the cedar forests of the Kullu valley over high passes to Lahaul and Spiti. Kargil is the gateway to the Suru valley and Zanskar.
