Tibet is space: a plateau above 4,000 metres, turquoise lakes, monasteries with golden roofs, prayer flags on every pass. In Lhasa pilgrims circle the Jokhang Temple, and the Potala stands above the city. The altitude calls for quiet first days, and foreign visitors travel with a permit and a guide.
