Butter lamps in the half-dark of a monastery, monks in red in front of a white stupa, terraced fields in the evening light, an 8,000-metre peak turning pink at sunrise: in Nepal the subjects lie close together. The air is clearest from October to December. In spring the rhododendrons bloom, though it is often hazy.
