Langtang

Leave Kathmandu in the morning and the next day you are climbing through bamboo and rhododendron forest into a high valley on the Tibetan border: Langtang is that close. The Tamang villages make yak cheese, and at Kyanjin Gompa walls of ice stand all around. Thousands of Hindus make the pilgrimage to the sacred lakes of Gosaikunda, at 4,380 metres, every August.
